New "Face" for Superleague |
Neptune will unveil new signing Kyle Myrick next Saturday against Saints in Dublin. The 6' 1" point guard is a graduate of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, where he starred in leading the team to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Div III tournament for the first time ever.
“Face”, as he is known, amassed an enviable list of highlight's in his time at Lincoln. He scored a career-best (and Division III season-high) 62 points in Lincoln's 115-83 victory over Penn State-Abington on February 20, 2006. He is one of only three players in Lincoln's history to have his number retired. In his senior year he lead all scorers in Division III with nearly 33 points per game, was second in the nation in assists with over 10 per game and just to show he can get it done on the other end was seventh in steals with about 3 1/2 thefts per game. His total 1,010 points in his senior year were a school record and he became only the 21st player ever in any divsion to score 1,000 points in a single season.
He won three National Player of the Year awards: Basketball Times, Association of Division III Independents and D3hoops.com. In addition, Kyle was selected first team Mid-Atlantic Region by the NABC. He was the first player to be named Association of Division III Independents Player of the Month three consecutive times. Simply put, Kyle's senior year was one for the ages.
He spent last year playing in Cyrus and his floor leadership, passing and particularly his ability to break down defences will hopefully push Neptune into serious contention for this year’s Superleague title. With Matt Gorman and Kieran O'Brien available to finish when he dishes and Pat Fitzpatrick's outside shooting to stretch a defense, we hope we'll have the balanced attack that will make the difference.
