A look at some Superleague Stats |
With every team in the Superleague having played at least 13 games out of the 21, here's a look at some of the pattern's that have emerged as we enter the final third of the season.
In general the Southern Conference seems to have the North's number this year. So far the South has won 15 of the 23 games played between teams from opposite conferences. The only Northern team that has a winning record against the South is Killester at 4 wins and 0 losses. Mustang Sally's St. Paul's have the South's best record against the North, also standing at 4 - 0.
Some teams seem to play better getting off a bus. DCU Saints are a mediocre 3 and 3 at home but have posted a sterling 6 wins from 8 road games. Limerick Lions have just 1 win and 7 losses in UL, but are a creditable 3 and 3 once they leave Limerick. Merry Monk Ballina have just 2 wins from 7 at home, but are a solid enough 4 from 9 on their travels. UCD Marian and UUJ also have marginally better win percentages away than at home. Overall being the home side does not seem to be an advantage this year, with home teams winning just less than 49% of all games.
Killester, not surprisingly, lead the league in blowout wins. They've won 5 games by 15 points or more and have never lost by that margin. DCU Saints also have 5 such wins, but with one big loss. UCC Demons come in next with 4. Killester, Demons and Neptune are the only teams not to have lost a game by 15 points or more, indicating they've at least been in with a shot of winning every game (Tralee would also figure if it wasn't for the abandoned game against Limerick Lions that resulted in a 20 - 0 win for the Lions). Shamrock Rovers Hoops look like this season's Jekyll and Hyde outfit - they have 4 wins by 15 or more and have also been handed 4 losses of at least that size. UUJ unfortunately lead the league in futile outings - they've been on the wrong side of 7 big margins and achieved none themeselves.
Killester's point differential is spectacular. They win the average game by an impressive 10.9 points. UUJ are on the wrong side of the average game by the same scoreline. Cork definitely have the teams to follow if you like close games. Neptune and UCC have been involved in 5 games each that were decided by a single score. Demons have done marginally better, winning 3 of their 5 while Neptune have come out on the winning side only twice in such games. Tralee have been the team that showed the clearest heads when it was required. They've played in 3 games where the final difference was 3 points or less and won them all.
