5 teams in Championship Finals |
Two more semi-finals last night saw two more Neptune sides advance and our lineups are complete for the Championship finals. Next Saturday the 16th of February the Under 11 B, Under 11 A, Under 14 A and Under 20 sides will all take the floor for their Championship finals. The Division 2 side advanced to their final with an overtime win over Blue Demons last night and play the following Friday.
Our schedule starts early, with the Under 11 A's tipping off at 9.00. We've beaten opponents Fr. Mathews twice in the league either side of Christmas. Neither game was a runaway and coaches Jim Wolfe and Joe Aherne will be making their team well aware that Fr. Mathews have a super win over Ballincollig this year and the two Neptune games are their only two league losses.
Paul Keenan's Under 11 B side are next up and will take on Crosshaven at 10.15. Crosshaven are unbeaten in the league so far and will surely be a very tough game, but Neptune have been improving fast all season. We had an excellent semi-final win over Ballincollig's Under 11 B side by 32 - 18 and will be hoping to go one better than last years 11 B team, who also reached the final.
A super win in the semi-final over Ballincollig has given the Under 12 A team an appointment with Crosshaven at 11.30. Dermot Murphy's charges have dropped only a single game all season and will be hoping to continue their good run on Saturday. We have two wins over Crosshaven already this season and will be looking to continue that run in the final.
Ballincollig are the opponents for the Under 14 A team at 14.00. Ballincollig have won the three league meetings between the sides this season, but two of the wins were by just 3 and 1 point, so another tight match is expected. Coach Michael Hennessey's players will need to be on top form to take home a trophy, but there should be no need for any extra motivation after two such close battles.
The Under 20's staged an incredible comeback against Blue Demons on Tuesday night after falling to an early 20 point deficit, but won't be satisfied with that win when they take on Ballincollig at in the day's last final at 19:00. This will be one of the toughest games of the day, as Ballincollig are one of the top teams in country, but Neptune have beaten them already this season and a strong performance will deliver a championship.
Our schedule is: Under 11 A 9.00am Neptune v Fr. Mathews Under 11 B 10.15am Neptune v Crosshaven Under 12 A 11.30am Neptune v Crosshaven Under 14 A 2.00pm Neptune v Ballincollig Under 20 7.00pm Neptune v Ballincollig |
