Neptune guarantee playoff spot

Shamrock Rovers Hoops 90 - 101 Neptune
Game date: 3/1/2008
A 90 - 101 victory in Dublin over Shamrock Rovers Hoops put Neptune into the playoffs last night and ended Mustang Sally's St. Pauls slim hopes of a late run.

Once again this season it was Neptune's frontcourt size that proved the difference in a game, with Matt Gorman and Kieran O'Brien controlling the painted area. Kyle Myrick lead Neptune's scorers with 24, as he gets more and more comfortable with his new teamates.

However, it wasn't all plain sailing. The old problem from the before Christmas reared its head again, as Neptune allowed an 18 point half time lead to be whittled down to just 5 as the game wound down. On the other hand, free throw shooting has been a problem all season, but when Hoops had to foul to stop the clock late on Neptune knocked down enough shots from the charity stripe to push the lead back into double figures.

It was a huge loss for Hoops, who are now a point behind Belfast Star for third place in the North. Both teams have two games to play.

Neptune host Limerick Lions next week and finish the regular season the following week in Ballina. Unfortunately we're three games behind both Tralee and UCC Demons, so third place is where we're going to finish. In the other conference DCU Saints are locked into second place, so it'll be a trip to Dublin for a replay of the game that ended when the lights went out in DCU a few weeks ago.
