Four Neptune juvenile teams reach Top 4 finals

Following on from strong League and Championship showings, the Under 11 A's, Under 12 A's, Under 14 A's and Under 16 A's have all won their Top 4 semi-finals to progress to the finals day on the 5th April.

The Under 11 A's will face Fr. Mathews in the final. We were outstanding in our 50 - 26 semi-final win over Blue Demons, playing tight defense and moving the ball well on offense. Jordan Blount, Greg Forde and Craig Scannell provided plenty of baskets and Ross O'Halloran was excellent on the defensive end, constantly harrassing the Demons guards to force turnovers for easy scores. Neptune have so far won all their games against Fr. Mathews, but that will surely just provide extra motivation to the south side team, who have played Neptune as closely as anyone all season. They had a fantastic win by 14 over a very good Ballincollig side in their semi, so they are certainly on form. Jim Wolfe and Joe Aherne will surely be making sure everyone is ready for a difficult final.

The Under 12 A's will take on Ballincollig after a 58 - 21 win over Blue Demons. Neptune were too strong and too fast up and down the court, and Blue Demons could not keep up with Neptune's fast ball movement on offense. Evan Lordan pulled the strings as usual and solid defense and rebounding prevented Demons from making a run to get back in it. Ballincollig are the only side to have beaten Neptune this season, and they'll feel they're due a trophy after a good season after a hard-fought 38 - 35 victory over Fr. Mathews in their semi.

The Under 14 A's will go in to their final after messy semi-final win over Blue Demons, 52 - 44. Demons started much brighter, but Neptune gradually got hold of the game through Gavin Forde and Roy Downey. Foul trouble limited Glenn Dollard's minutes and it allowed Neptune to dominate inside to gradually pull into a lead that held till the end of the game. In the final this group will be looking to get someway towards evening up the score against Ballincollig. Ballincollig took all three league meetings, but Neptune won the Championship final, and more than likely this one will come down to the last few minutes, as most of the games between these sides do.

The Under 16 A's knocked out Ballincollig in the semi final by 42 - 36. The season was frankly ruined by various injuries to the Under 16's, but last season's John Coughlan winners will be able to remind everyone how good they are if they can come up with a Top 4 victory over Championship winners Tramore. The Waterford side have really added to the quality of the Under 16 league, and they knocked out Blue Demons by the narrowest of margins, 49 - 48, in the other semi. The last time the sides met Tramore came out on top by their favourite score of 49 - 48, so another close one can be expected.

The Under 18 A's unfortunately did not make the final. Despite gaining a double digit lead over Blue Demons in the semi-final Demons were able to peg it back and grind out a narrow 4 point victory. They will play Ballincollig in the final.
