Under 14's to compete in All-Ireland Club Championships |
This year Basketball Ireland has decided to begin an annual All-Ireland club championships tournament for Under 14 and Under 16 boys and girls. Neptune will be proud to be one of two Cork representatives at the Under 14 All Ireland for boys in Tralee.
The competition will run over Saturday and Sunday this 12th and 13th of April at Mounthawk and Cuman Iosaf gyms. We've been matched up with the Kerry Board winners St. Paul's and Midlands winners Athlone. The competition has a fairly involved system of assigning teams to three Divisions after the pool stages and teams then playoff within their division for a final ranking. Paired down though, if you want to win the All-Ireland you must win your pool. St. Paul's have been strong in Kerry this year and will be a tough first opponent, especially because neither team will know much about the other. Athlone were solid champions in the Midlands, and will also be a tough game.
A pool win would see us up against the winners of the other pool in our venue, which contains Swords from Dublin, Castleblayney from the Northern Region and our old foes Maree from Galway, who knocked us out of the Cork County Board tournament by 4 points this season.
A full description of the compeitions is available here and the full schedule for our competition is available here. |
