Under 12, 14, 16 and Division 1 all reach Championship finals |
Four Neptune teams will compete in Championship finals this weekend, with Division 1 A taking the floor on Friday evening and the Under 12's, 14's and 16's all in action on Saturday.
Here's a quick run-down of the 8 semi-finals we were involved in:
The Under 11 B side had a great win in the first round, but ran into Mallow in the semi-final. Mallow's only Under 11 team is entered in the B championship, and although Neptune gave everything on the day Mallow won out by a 30 - 11 scoreline.
The Under 12's have had a magnificent Championship, eliminating Ballincollig in the first round and giving a superb display to get past an excellent Glanmire side by 43 - 27 in the semi-final. The final will be the toughest game though, with a very strong Fr. Mathews side waiting. Fr. Mathews beat Blue Demons by 25 in their semi, and will be desperate to make the breakthrough to winning titles at Under 12.
The Under 14's knocked out Blue Demons on Tuesday evening with a resilient display, earning a 26 - 24 victory. Ballincollig await in the final after they pulled out a narrow 3 point win over Fr. Mathews in the other semi. The last time the teams met Ballincollig came away with a win by a single point, and we'll be looking to redress the balance on Saturday.
The Under 16's had a good 71 - 39 win over Limerick Lakers in their semi, and will take on Ballincollig in the final. Ballincollig are unbeaten in the league, with wins over ourselves and Blue Demons. This will be a difficult outing, but it is in no way beyond us.
The Under 18's were knocked out at the semi-final stage by Blue Demons by a score of 31 - 54. Demons will take on a high-scoring Tramore outfit in the final.
The Under 20's lost out to Ballincollig, 53 - 67. Ballincollig will face Blue Demons in the final.
The Under 20 loss was unfortunately followed up by another elimination, as Division 2 were narrowly beaten by Dragon Crew, 56 - 60.
The Division 1 championship bracket is probably the toughest in the Men's board, and reaching the final is no easy task. Division 1 A overcame Glanmire by 57 - 50 in their semi-final and will face a familiar opponent, Blue Demons A, in the decider.
So, 4 out of 8 successful attempts at reaching Championship finals. Not quite as good as last year, when we had 5 final appearances, but we will certainly be hoping to at least equal last years total of 3 Championship wins. Every team involved has a good shot at winning their final, and 4 out of 4 is not unrealistic.
Our game times are as follows:
Div 1 : Fri 21.00 Neptune V Blue Demons U - 14: Sat 11:30 Neptune V Ballincollig U - 12: Sat 13:30 Fr. Mathews V Neptune U - 16: Sat 16:00 Neptune V Ballincollig
All members, families and friends are asked to come support the teams over the weekend, and make as much noise as possible when we're there! |
